Mersin completed the first step to revive hope

ÇİLYAD Courses have spread across Turkey

Advanced Life Support in Children (ÇİLYAD) courses aiming to minimize infant and children mortality and preventable disabilities are organized with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health Primary Health Services Directorate General and Universities.

After the first executive course in Mersin on 9-10 December 2004, trainer and provider courses have been carried out in provinces with Regional Training Centers assigned by the Ministry of Health. Each course in a Regional Training Center was was held in cooperation with the local university. It is now possible for CILYAD courses to take place simultaneously all around the country, so the number of trained providers are increasing rapidly.

A total of 347 courses, (186 provider and 29 instructors courses for doctors as well as 132 provider courses for other medical staff) have been completed.  The number of providers has reached to 7719 (4427 provider doctors and 685 instructor doctors as well as 3292 other medical staff).

ÇİLYAD is using the synergy of both the instructors and the providers to conduct more courses with the enthusiastic support of 30 universities. The crawling and toddling days are over and the program is running with everyone’s support.  In 2007, 3124 personnel were trained which exceeded the 2500 initially planned.  In 2008, 2300 doctors and 3200 other medical staff were planned to get the course. This will increase the number of certificated personnel to over 9500.

“Standardization” was the main theme of the 2nd CILYAD Workshop and Course Management Training organized in January 17-18 2008.  Around 100 trainers and course managers from 24 provinces attended the symposium. Ideas were examined and it was decided to initiate a work group that would create a “Quality Management System” to standardize CILYAD courses across the country. The first steps are to practice the “CILYAD Recording System” and appoint “CILYAD Course Directors” and “CILYAD Course Supervisors” to audit the standardization process.

The website decided to be translated into English so that CILYAD can serve not only the children of Turkey but also our neighboring nation’s children as well.

Work has already begun on the main theme of our 2009 workshop which is “Evaluation of the Success”.

I am beholden to and thank all who hit the road with the motto: “Saving a child is saving thousands of hope” and who have served children and the future of humanity.
